Walk 01 · Westminster · The route

Here's how the story unfolds, stop by stop

Not a palace-and-pageantry tour, but the opposite story: one continuous thread from the Temple to the Houses of Parliament.

Temple Church → Houses of Parliament

~2 hours~3 km / 2 miles10 stopsFree
  • Temple Church, where the fight to put kings under the law with Magna Carta began
  • Somerset House, the vast land grab that enriched a king and lit a religious fuse that would destroy his heirs
  • Villiers Street, why London crowds cheered the murder of the King's favourite
  • Trafalgar Square, a statue of the king who believed God, not Parliament, gave him his right to rule
  • Banqueting House, where Parliament sealed its bloody victory over him
  • The Houses of Parliament, where a king was toppled for being Catholic and Parliament made itself supreme for good

Meet: Temple Church, EC4Y 7BB (south side, by the benches).

Simple as that

How it works

1

Reserve your free place on GuruWalk in under a minute. No payment, no ticket to print.

2

Find your guide

Come to the meeting point at the start time and look for the yellow cap. That's your guide.

3

Pay what it's worth

The walk is free to join. At the end, tip whatever you feel it was worth, but only if you enjoyed it.

No flags, no numbered lollipops, no umbrella held in the air. Just one yellow cap, easy to spot across a crowded square, and the only thing you need to look for.

Where we meet

Start at Temple Church

We gather on the south side of Temple Church, the side closer to the river, by the wooden benches (Temple Church, EC4Y 7BB). Look for the guide in the yellow cap, and please arrive about 10 minutes before the start time on your booking.

Nearest tube: Blackfriars (Circle and District lines). From Blackfriars, walk down Tudor Street to enter the Temple area via the Tudor Street gate. This gate is always open.

Questions

Before you come

Are the tours really free?

Yes. You join for free and there's no fixed price. Guides work on tips, so at the end you give what you think the walk was worth.

How do I book?

Reserve a free place through GuruWalk using the booking links above. It takes a moment and helps the guide know how many to expect.

What if it rains?

The walks run rain or shine. London rarely stops for weather, and neither do we. Bring a coat; the route is fully outdoors.

Are they suitable for children and less mobile visitors?

The walk is about 3 km on mostly flat, paved streets with regular stops, so it works for most ages. There are some steps along the route, so it can be tricky for wheelchairs and prams. Message us ahead if you have specific access needs and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Is there more than one walk?

Right now we run one walk, Parliament vs King, through Westminster. A second is on the way: The Square Mile, covering Roman and mercantile London. Take a look at the coming-soon page and we'll let you know when it opens.
